Baby Name Builder is a free place to look for a baby name at your own pace. Choose a feeling you like, narrow things down by origin, length or first letter, and keep a shortlist of the names that make you smile.
Hi, I'm Joan Ramos. I make small websites that are free to use, and the first one taught me what matters.
That first site was Mary's Printables, a collection of free sheets to print at home or school. I assumed it would get a handful of visitors. Instead, notes started arriving. One came from a teacher who had finally found the worksheet her students needed. Another came from a parent who was using one of the charts to help a struggling child. Someone else wrote after printing something in a hurry, just before it was needed.
What stayed with me was what they thanked me for: the page was there when they looked, it did its job, and it never asked them for a thing. That's the bar I try to meet with everything I build.
Picking a name is one of the first big choices you make for someone you haven't met yet. It should feel exciting, but long lists can make it feel like homework.
Most name lists are just pages of names in a row, with no easy way to say "short, Irish, and a little bit gentle." I wanted something that lets you search the way you actually think about names.
Say it out loud with the last name, more than once. Rhythm matters: a short first name often sits nicely next to a long last name, and the other way around. Check the initials, think about the nicknames people will reach for, and picture the name on a toddler and on a grown-up.
Meaning matters, too, so every name here shows what it means, how to say it, where it comes from and its syllable count.
If a meaning looks wrong, a pronunciation is off, or something doesn't work on your phone, write to me at [email protected]. I read every message myself.
Baby Name Builder is part of a small family of free tools I run at FriendlyApps.
